Universal Mounting

On a few vehicles it has been found impractical to produce a transducer that will fit either the gearbox or speedometer fittings. In these instances a Metron universal transducer can be used. This will entail cutting the speedometer drive cable and fitting the transducer in the cut section.

Universal transducers can also be used for an urgen installation when the appropriate custom transducer cannot be obtained in time.

Universal transducers are installed in the following manner. The cable modification details provided in Installation Note 1 (Appendix A) should be read very carefully before installation starts.

  • Select a straight ection of the speedometer cable, this should be no less than 14cm.
  • Cut the speedometer cable with a fine blade hacksaw. This cut should be at least 7cm from any bend in the cable.
  • Prepare cable ends and fit cable kit as directed in the Installation Note.
  • Fit the Metron universal transducer.
  • Check by rotating the drive cable at the gearbox end, that the cable rotates freely and that the speedometer needle moves.
  • Any flicker or jerky movement of the speedometer needle when the vehicle is driven indicates a faulty installation and should be investigated immediately.
